Northern Thailand Tours

Lampang is situated on the right bank of the Wang River, about 600 kilometers north of Bangkok. It borders the provinces of Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Sukhothai, Phrae, Phayao, Tak,and occupies an area of 12,543 sq km. Lampang claims to be the only Thai town where colorful horse-drawn carriages are still used as a means of everyday urban transportation. In Lampang, or Khelang Nakorn as it was known in the past, you will find fine examples of  Buddhist monasteries built in Burmese and Lanna Thai style. Another popular stop for visitors is the Thai Elephant Conservation Center where baby elephants are trained for forest work.

The main economic activity in Lampang is ceramics production. Close to 200 factories produce vases, tableware, Benjarong, celadon, dolls, figurines, and many other products for the national and international market. The Ceramic Fair held in December of every year is a good opportunity to meet most of these producers in one single place.
